Every Student Deserves a Champion for College, Career and Life Readiness Infographic
Even though high school graduation rates continue to steadily increase, research shows that college readiness and enrollment are on the decline nationally. When students leave high school unprepared for the next steps, it is increasingly difficult to close the opportunity gap.
The Every Student Deserves a Champion for College, Career and Life Readiness Infographic juxtaposes the current state of college ready transcripts and college enrollment rates with evidence that personalized guidance programming has the power to combat and reverse current trends.
The infographic outlines national data and best practices, while highlighting the success of one program in particular: the Career Guidance Washington (CGW) program. CGW, a part of College Spark Washington’s College Readiness Initiative, takes a personalized and student-centered approach to guidance and readiness.
Career Guidance Washington was implemented in 19 low-income schools across Washington State and after an eight-year grant period has shown increased graduation rates, college-ready transcripts and college enrollment rates.
Through the CGW program, students are supported with personalized design components and student-centered targets. Design components include aspects such as personalized advisory; personalized learning plans and student-led conferences; and student-centered targets that focus on academic eligibility, financial literacy, social-emotional learning, self-awareness and preparation for college and career.
