Learning platform satisfaction is becoming a critical competitive differentiator, and the AI Expectation Gap in Learning Tech 2026 report reveals that vendors and buyers often have very different perceptions of the user experience. Drawing on insights from more than 500 L&D leaders and learning technology vendors, the research highlights a clear satisfaction gap that could shape platform purchasing and customer retention in the years ahead.

The data shows that 30% of vendors believe their customers are completely satisfied, compared with just 8% of L&D buyers. Similarly, 44% of vendors believe customers are mostly satisfied, while only 31% of buyers agree. Instead, the largest share of buyers (40%) describe their experience as neutral, suggesting that many organizations feel learning platforms meet basic expectations but do not deliver exceptional value. This perception gap indicates that vendors may be overestimating customer satisfaction while underestimating opportunities for improvement.

The report suggests that this disconnect extends beyond platform features. Buyers consistently prioritize user experience, ease of administration, seamless integrations, measurable business outcomes, and ongoing customer support over having the latest AI capabilities alone. In fact, elsewhere in the research, 70% of L&D buyers identify user experience as the most important LMS selection criterion, ranking it ahead of pricing, integrations, analytics, and AI features. This reinforces the idea that long-term satisfaction depends on how effectively a platform supports learners and administrators throughout the entire learning journey.

Another important insight is that satisfaction does not automatically translate into customer loyalty. As organizations increasingly evaluate learning technology based on business impact rather than feature lists, vendors must demonstrate measurable improvements in learner engagement, productivity, and performance. Continuous customer feedback, simplified workflows, responsive onboarding, and transparent product development can help close the perception gap.

Ultimately, the report concludes that success in the learning technology market will depend not only on innovation but also on delivering consistently positive user experiences. Vendors that listen closely to customer feedback, invest in usability, and prove measurable learning outcomes will be better positioned to build trust, improve retention, and differentiate themselves in an increasingly competitive market.
