Grad school is important to more than just the person attending it. Society needs an educated population in order to remain competitive in the global marketplace, yet we are supporting graduate students less than we have in decades. The cost of graduate school is ballooning and support in the form of scholarships and financial aid is dwindling. Asking a student who is going to graduate to make $18k a year to take on $20k in student loan debt is absurd, yet that's just what happens to people in necessary fields like social work.

How can we fix graduate school? Work study opportunities may be the best band aid we currently have. Companies like Verizon, Bank of America, UPS, Disney, Best Buy, Walmart, and more offer tuition reimbursement to certain student employees. There are also more companies that are starting to include tuition payback assistance as part of their benefits package.
