Since March 2011, One Laptop per Child (http://one.laptop.org/) has provided tablets for millions of children in developing countries around the world to see if children could learn to use the tablets and to read without the benefit of a classroom teacher. The One Laptop per Child Infographic visualizes the results of a study on school-aged children in Ethiopia in which they used a tablet-based educational platform called Nell to guide the children through their lessons and track their activity. Can educational software replace human instruction? Not yet, the researchers found, but the kids were able to pick up a surprising number of skills on their own.
