Nationwide, recess time has been cut dramatically (some kids don’t even get any recess at all anymore). Since the implementation of No Child Left Behind, many schools have had to shave off an average of 50 minutes or more of recess time per week to keep up. Kids who do poorly in school and on standardized tests or live below the poverty line, in particular, see less recess time than their classmates.
