When the cost of print textbooks has risen three times faster than the rate of inflation, the fix is in: Something’s rotten in the state of educational publishing. And students, who shoulder the burden of rising textbook prices, have decided they aren’t going to take it anymore: 65 percent are opting not to pony up for the latest editions of already-out-of-date textbooks, regardless of the peril it presents to their education. Others are spending financial aid on course materials just to keep up in class.

But it doesn’t have to be this way—as students increasingly look for lower-cost, digital-first solutions, the opportunity for innovative educators to create more effective, interactive course materials has arrived.
